Ready to learn how to make a cookie baking mix that’s perfect for gifting season? Let’s do it!
🍫 Ingredients
These ingredients are all you need to make a delicious and easy cookie mix in a jar!
- Gluten free flour: Gluten free flour is the base of this recipe. We did not test with alternative flours like almond so make sure you test before mixing!
- Baking powder: This helps the cookies rise and get fluffy.
- Baking soda: This helps to activate the baking powder and gives the cookies a little bit of a tang.
- Salt: Just a pinch of salt is all you need to balance out the flavors in these cookies.
- Candies: You can use any type of chocolate covered candy, or even nuts or dried fruit. We used chocolate-covered cranberries, but feel free to get creative!
- Brown sugar: This gives the cookies a nice molasses flavor and helps them stay soft.
- Granulated sugar: This is the classic sugar for cookies.
- Materials: mason jars with lids, paper for printing labels, ribbon for decoration
🥣 How to make (step-by-step photos)
1️⃣ Step One: Combine ingredients
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl and mix, then add to a mason jar.
Tip: For a layered mix, simply place a circle of wax paper over each ingredient to keep them from mixing together.
2️⃣ Step Two: Add candies and sugar to the jar
Add your favorite chocolate covered candies to the jar, then add the brown sugar and granulated sugar.
3️⃣ Step Three: Print and attach baking instructions
Print out the attached tag (or write your own) with baking instructions, then attach to the jar.
4️⃣ Step Four: Decorate and give!
Decorate the jar however you like, then give it as a gift to your favorite cookie lover!
The final mix makes about 20 cookies, so it’s perfect for a small gathering or party. Just bake the cookies according to the instructions, let them cool, and enjoy!

Make your own recipe instructions
If you’d like to make your own cookie jar tags, write these baking instructions (or a shortened version of them) on a decorative tag:
- In a bowl, whisk 1/2 cup melted unsalted vegan butter, egg replacer equivalent to one egg, and 2 tsp pure vanilla extract.
- Add contents of jar to bowl, and stir to combine. Chill dough for 30 minutes.
- Form dough into roughly 20 golf-ball sized portions, and place onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Edges will be set, but the middle of cookies will appear slightly undone.
- Place on a rack to cool, then remove from the sheet pan.
- Enjoy!
🧊 How to store
It is important to store your cookie mix in a cool area away from the kitchen. If you store it on a countertop, make sure that it is out of reach of curious pets and children!
What are some other tips for storing cookie mixes?
- Label your jar clearly so you know what’s inside without having to open it up.
- Make sure to use fresh ingredients when baking your cookies (or else they’ll have an off flavor)
- Use a small piece of wax paper or aluminum foil over the top of the jar before closing with the lid if you want to keep ingredients separate.
