Ingredients
- Chocolate protein powder: The flavor base of this recipe and provides chocolate flavor. My favorite is Raw Fusion Natural.
- Grapefruit essential oil: Just a couple drops of therapeutic grade grapefruit essential oil adds delicious flavor to the mix! These oil drops are so concentrated that they infuse the whole smoothie with their refreshing flavor.
- Banana: Adds a creamy texture to smoothies
- Almond butter: Adds healthy fats and proteins, as well as a deep flavor
- Frozen spinach: Adds plant-based iron, as well as acts as an ice replacer when frozen ( you can also use fresh spinach, just make sure to add 1 cup of ice to the smoothie)
- Recommended tools: high powered blender
Pro tip: Make sure you select a therapeutic grade oil any time you are ingesting it. Read the label carefully to ensure it is approved for internal use.
How to make (step-by-step photos)
Step One: Add ingredients to a blender
Add water, a few drops of grapefruit essential oil, chocolate protein powder, banana, almond butter, and spinach to a high powered blender.
Fresh or frozen spinach? I like using frozen spinach in smoothies because it provides nutrition while also acting as a replacer for ice. However, if you have fresh spinach then add 1 cup ice.
Step Two: Blend until smooth
Blend the smoothie ingredients until they are smooth, about 1-2 minutes. Add more water or ice to your desired thickness.
Step Three: Serve smoothie
Once the smoothie is blended, pour into your favorite cup to enjoy as a drink, or add the smoothie to a bowl and top with your favorite toppings for a fun smoothie bowl.
How to freeze
This smoothie is a great option for freezing for later use. Simply blend until smooth, then store leftovers in a freezer-friendly cup.
When you’re ready to serve, take the smoothie out of the freezer and let thaw about 10 minutes at room temperature before enjoying. For best results, add the slightly thawed smoothie back to the blender and blend for 30 seconds for a smoother consistency.
